About the Institute for Energy Transition

The Institute of Energy Transition (IET) is a hub for education and research in the field of energy, which includes advanced research and laboratories at the Interdisciplinary Engineering (IDE) Building, Faculty of Engineering- Universitas Indonesia, Depok-West Java, Indonesia.

Our team includes researchers from various centers, including the Tropical Renewable Energy Center (TREC), the Sustainable Energy Systems and Policy (SESP) Research Cluster, and the Advanced Material Research Center (AMRC). The institute is dedicated to providing interdisciplinary research, professional education, and services to address global energy and climate challenges, positioning itself at the forefront of the energy transition in Indonesia.

The Tropical Renewable Energy Center (TREC) was established in the Faculty of Engineering at Universitas Indonesia in 2015. TREC conducted the most advanced studies on renewable energy applications in tropical regions and provided high-quality research products by collaborating with scientists worldwide. TREC focused on research projects on the environment and energy issues, which are crucial for humanity in the 21st century.

The Sustainable Energy Systems and Policy Research Cluster Universitas Indonesia (SESP-UI) was established in 2015. It is an integrated research cluster on complex energy systems and policy analysis, aiming to understand the relationships between environmental, economic, and social factors and their impact on energy systems.

The Advanced Materials Research Center (AMRC) was established in 2023 and is part of the Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Indonesia. The establishment of this research center is driven by the understanding that the broad applicability of its research results will find practical uses in industries and scientific disciplines. AMRC comprises several research groups, including Computational Materials, Mesoporous Materials, Photocatalysis, Nanodevices, Nanostructured Energy Materials, and Functional Polymer Materials.
